This book was a turbulent emotional experience! I loved the author's unique take on how fear can control our lives and the possibilities or overcoming them.

an absolute rollercoaster and im not sure if i enjoyed the ride. every time this book brought me in, it dropped me in the next few chapters (but i did finish it, so that's something!)
i think my main gripe is how i took what the boy meant in contrast with the ending. perhaps i projected a little too much onto him, i dont know - either way, the lingering question of "how will this boy survive?" being answered withhe won't so i shot him felt.. jarring? not exactly the act itself, but the way jess responded to it made my head spin a little. girl stand up!
other than that, there's some good segments in here that i really enjoyed. the ending didn't quite grab me like everyone else is seemingly saying, but i still had a fun (if complicated) time with this book. would recommend if you want some pretty intense horror imagery, but it might not be for you if your imaginations lacking, some of those dad forms had me very confused x)

Nat Cassidy is a master of horror. This is genuinely the scariest book I've read in a long, long time. As always, check your trigger warnings, this one was a doozy.
This one felt very classical horror, all the stops pulled out to give the reader the most gut wrenching, bloody scenes.
I walked into this anticipating it to be a commentary on toxic masculinity, and it definitely was in parts. But this is, truly, at its heart, a novel about fear. Complex concepts such as dread, terror, anxiety, ruminating thoughts, panic attacks, paranoia, and so many more take shape and chase the reader down mercilessly throughout these pages.
Dreadfully gorey, oftentimes hopeless, and beautifully written with a delightful and relatable lead, Cassidy has yet to disappoint. I am beyond excited to delve into more of his works.
