This reminded me of Chuck Tingle horror in that there's a lot of humor and character study mixed in with the horror elements. The front half of the book especially is cluttered with bits that are meant to be funny.

I struggled for a while with the present tense and shifting perspectives, and even later in the book it would trip me up sometimes. I was never super engrossed in the book and there are definitely stretches of the audiobook that I spaced out for.

Overall I think this was a solid horror novel? Some body horror and gore. Lots of death. As is generally true of good horror, the monsters are metaphors. I didn't really care for the ending, though. I saw the twist coming and I hoped I would be wrong.
