This is the storyline that the Hollywood film Constantine was trying to replicate. Not so much success there but the comic is wondrous in comparison. John Constantine has faced every sort of evil and horror that exists and now he's facing the ultimate horror. First that he's dying of terminal lung cancer and second, and most terrifying, is that he is heading straight to Hell when it does happen. John moves through every stage of grief and reaction to the news as possible for a guy like him but even he can't keep his mouth shut and he certainly is not going to go quietly. John does have a heart and does care about certain people, he just does a terrible job of it.

It's the Constantine we know and love fighting against the inevitable and while that fight is entertaining and you know how this has to end the final issue in the collection, of him dealing with the whole arc, is probably the highlight of the entire thing. Stellar storyline and stellar addition to the series. It's probably my favourite as well.

Got a bit manpain-y there in the end but altogether probably my favorite Hellblazer storyline I've read so far.

Hellblazer as Hellblazer should be, weird, nihilistic, angry, crude and funny as hell (pun totally intended).

This is in many ways the cointicential Constantine, it gives you a really clear impression of who he is and how he lives his life. He's a sorcerer, sort of, but as he tells his sister magic is kind of a load of bollox.

He still manages to cure his own caner though.
