I really enjoyed this. Finlay Donovan is a great character and I was rooting for her the whole way through. It was thrilling enough to be a real page turner but not quite stressful enough that it made me anxious which is the kind of pace I prefer. It's very over the top but in a really fun way and I'm definitely picking up the next one.

I was in a reading slump of sorts and this pulled me out! I find that in cozy mysteries (does this count as one?), there tends to be more emphasis on character & relationship development than on the mysteries themselves, but here the balance was pretty much perfect. The story takes many outrageous turns, yet the atmosphere & pacing were so consistent that I never had trouble immersing myself.

I found all the characters (yes, even douchebag Steven) interesting except for Nick. Julian was nice and ~mysterious~ enough, Nick's presence was redundant. :P Vero kept making so many dumb decisions that I almost wanted to strangle her, though she was endearing at the same time.

This was a fun mystery. I love that Finlay is always inadvertently and accidentally successful. The author went all in on the "this person is either incredibly lucky or overpowered" concept. Because, really, Finlay has no idea what she's doing (which, you know, fair.)

My only complaint was Vero's characterization. Of course is nanny is Latina! And of course she has a cousin who sells cars for scraps. The idea of a WOC being a sidekick to a white woman's shenanigans also bugged me. I did like that Vero had skills outside the main plot though. She wants to be an accountant which was interesting. And she takes charge even is she makes mistakes. Despite the stereotypes seen in Vero's character, I do appreciate the author's attempt to discuss Finlay's privileges upbringing and how her parents paid for her education. I'd love to see more of Vero in the sequel.

The ending certainly has me wanting more as well!

Definitely loved Finlay Donovan is Killing It! I greatly enjoyed the twists and turns that this story went through and the massive cliffhanger it left us on. I will most definitely be getting my hands on book 2 very soon! The only reason this wasn’t 5 stars for me was because I wish there was more detail into the murderer as I thought it was kind of glossed over. The last 50 pages also seemed a bit rushed, but not badly. Loved the relationships in this book, especially the funny dynamics between Finlay and Vero (she’s hilarious). Can’t wait for the series to continue!
