This first book holds up exceptionally well as a stand-alone book and even better as the first book of the trilogy. Katniss is such a fantastic character, even though flawed and pretty selfish apart from with those she loves and will do anything to defend them, so admirable for a teenager. The author writes a world that unfortunately is so believable, and the reader is sucked in very quickly. And Peeta - need I say more, what a character - absolutely love him!
