“Tomorrow will be more hopeful than this awful piece of time we call today.”

“Katniss. The girl who was on fire.”

Okay I really loved every second of that
This is my second time reading The Hunger Games, I recently finished The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and felt a reread of the entire series was in order (especially after the announcement of her new book Sunrise on the Reaping) so here I am! I love this series so much, the depth of the world is incredible and there’s just so much to explore within it

I have to say, reading Rue’s death scene absolutely destroyed me and I was full on sobbing by the end of it, but the scene really does hold such a sad beauty to it. The quiet lullaby Katniss sings to Rue as life escapes her, the mockingjays taking up her song and spreading it through the woods (a place Rue surely loved back in District 11) so they come alive with Rue’s last moments, allowing her to live on in birdsong, and of course the arrangement of flowers around her body. The moment in which District 11 sends Katniss bread in their silent thanks also made my heartache, and I think it is a massive turning point in the books both for Katniss and Panem as a whole. I truly think this moment is what sets the spark of the rebellion off for the first time. It’s Katniss’ first true act of defiance against the Capitol, broadcasted to the whole of Panem, and is also the moment where she really gets to confront her hatred for the first time. I think this scene, showing a young girl murdered and then lay to rest so vulnerable in a bed of flowers, really gets people to realise just how evil the Capitol is and will continue to be without some sort of retaliation.
Katniss truly becomes a symbol here.

Of course, the whole everlark play is also an act of defiance in itself. As an everlark girly myself I absolutely loved their scenes together and Peeta just has such a heart of gold I really love him

So below are some of my fav everlark quotes:

“‘You’re not leaving me here alone,’ I say. Because if he dies, I’ll never go home, not really. I’ll spend the rest of my life in this arena, trying to think my way out.”

Peeta Is a new level of husband material, the book was so good, I loved the relationship between some of these characters so much but I'm also kinda confused because of some things that were said ⭐
