As a woman who reads a lot of sci-fi/fantasy, this is a boy book. It's a book for boys. The main character is such a boy that being in his head is mildly insufferable. And he's flexing so much science! All the time! That I don't need to know about! I wanted more speculation and less science, if that makes sense. That said, it goes fast and is adventurous. Rocky is the best character.

The Spirit of Friendship ending is sweet. The end-of-the-world gang in flashbacks is interesting. I wish we got to know more about how Earth turned out.

The book is a good read if you’re looking to be entertained. I found myself hooked in the first half but slowly lost interest in the second. The character development felt minimal and I felt as though some moments were breezed through that could have brought more attention and challenge to the character development as a whole.

Good plot structure, including twists. Lots of science info that slowed me way down trying to visualize or grasp but you could probably skim through a bit more. Characters were not too deep or sophisticated emotionally but still an enjoyable read. Lots of disbelief to suspend...
