This book was actually fabulous, and I enjoyed it a lot, there was just this one glaring and annoying thing that happened over and over again that made me doubt the research that went into the whole thing. Specifically, Rocky, who does not speak English but a conlang unique to his species based on musical notes, who never learns to speak English... they keep translating the notes he makes as "Thank" instead of "thanks" or "thank you" and why? You're just translating his music into your own language. Why would you not just translate that series of notes as "thanks" instead of "thank" And so on he makes so many grammatical errors and why? You're translating music into English, why would you not just translate the grammar correctly? This really bugged me through the entire book enough that I'm rating it 4.5 stars instead of 5 even though it was a brilliant story and the science was so spot on.
