Cecile is a smart, bratty, self aware teenage girl - my favourite kind. I really enjoyed reading this and it made me laugh a lot, even if it did have a sad ending. I really liked Anne too. Best read in sunshine.

Melancholy.
To me, this novel eloquently describes the feeling of being seventeen, and feeling spoiled for simply being alive. Being young and losing what we feel is everything feels impossible. Cécile walks us through this process; she knows her life is filled with admirable fleeting romances and paternal affection, yet she cannot help herself from rejecting Anne’s presence. In many ways, Anne is both what Cécile despises most and what she admires above all else. She’s an almost religious figure to her. All I have to say is that being seventeen is hard.
The only issue I had with this novel was mainly the writing. I thought it was just a little too inconsistent, but the prose was marvellous.
