SO messy. Most of the time it was so annoying and I felt like I started hating this story, but I'm glad it's over and the way it ended was enough for me to not want to continue the next book lol

Giving it 5 stars because it rly was better than the first book and I can look passed the way the story played out if only for the way love was described in the side romances.

1st Reread: 5 Stars ~ This series is even better upon rereads.  Knowing what I now do from later books made all the twists and turns that much more exciting.  I can't wait to reread the other books, and I can't wait for The Grandest Game to be released next month!

Original Review: 4.5 Stars ~ I loved this book even more than the first one! It wasted no time in diving into another mystery, and this one was full of romance, backstory, action, and heart-wrenching moments. There were so many unexpected twists and turns--- I was left eagerly burning through pages. I don't generally finish books this fast and am not usually this motivated to finish. I LOVE this series. I LOVE the characters. I LOVE the story. Most of all, I'm glad I took "a very risky gamble" in trying something outside of my comfort genre. I can't wait to see how this series concludes in The Final Gambit.
The two love interests are both great.  Jameson is quickly growing on me as a character and Grayson has been my favorite character in the series ever since his debut in book 1.  I hope they both find love and happiness in their own way!
 Hoping book three won't disappoint!

It was packed with more mystery and always had to insert a twist than the normal plot twists in history. Many side characters were introduced, and the characters from book 1 stayed true to their personalities. Although there's the frustration of the heroine's confusions and doubts, it showed readers that everything is not as it seems. This was good enough as a duology, but knowing it still has another installment is not so bad as well.
