Starts normal and nice but gets dark and interesting quickly

I enjoyed this first book in the series. I liked that it was set in a small town with normal small-town characters. The story stated easygoing and light but got spooky and scary and interesting quickly. Some twists. Some ghosts. Dark but good.

Based on the title I wasn’t expecting much. Spookie Town? Seriously? But, even though the writing was kind of clunky & this read like it was written in 1950, I read the whole book and didn’t hate it.

I enjoyed the deceased character’s ex-husband’s rants. Haha. I don’t think anyone would seriously talk about women like that TO a woman!

I haven't yet finished reading this story, which seems interesting so far. But it is in need of a serious edit! OMG the comma fairy had a field day with this one! Just throw them in where ever! To the author, I am an editor if you ever feel the need for one, give me a shout! Ok now I have finished the book and I am still disappointed. The writing is just bad. The storyline could have been really good but it just wasn't polished enough, the book wasn't finished, refined, it comes across as a first draft. Too many meaningless details, poorly composed descriptions.

I gave the novel 3 stars because it is well written but I wanted to give it two stars for the story line. I feel like the mystery wasn’t a mystery because the murderer was obvious. I also think the author could have played up the town name of Spooky more. I don’t regret reading it.

A cozy and heartwarming summer mystery. One of my favorite aspects is that it's told from a widower's viewpoint of loss, love ad friendship. While it could have been a bit shorter, the vivid descriptions create a charming cozy summer atmosphere. Overall, it's a perfect, easygoing read for the summer season.

It was okay. The plot was interesting but cliche, the setting was kind of bland, and the characters kind of generic. Liked it enough to finish it but not going to go out of my way to read the next one.

What a fun little mystery. This was a great book to get me out of my reading slump. It was a fast read that was entertaining and funny. I will definitely read the next book in the series.
