The whole time I listened to this I just kept seeing the Disney movie "Treasure Planet". I enjoyed the story of Jim Hawkins and Captain Silver. I'm such a sucker for pirate stories.

3.5/5 rounded down. A good old time at the sea! Some of the language feels outdated and jargon-y, but the spirits are high throughout and it's charming in a way only classics seem to be capable of.

Treasure Island is a classic! A story that any adventure seeking person should read. The story of Captain Flints treasure is a rollercoaster of emotions and feelings, from wonder and friendship to betrayal and plight. If able, I would highly recommend re-reading the story after watching the Prequel TV Show “Black Sails” and find yourself visualising the book a whole different way!

Klassieke avonturenroman die zonder twijfel vele piratenclichés de wereld in heeft geholpen: het verlaten schateiland zelf, een schatkaart met een x erop, een piraat met een papegaai en een houten been (alleen het ooglapje ontbreekt nog) en het klassieke piratenlied 'Fifteen men on the dead man's chest, Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum'.

Hoofdpersoon is de jonge Jim die meegezogen wordt in een zoektocht naar de schat, waarin het klassieke en lekker dubbele (zowel sympathieke als onsympathieke) personage Long John Silver een hoofdrol speelt.

Hoogstaand is het allemaal niet, maar de vaart zit er goed in en ondanks het wat ouderwetse Engels vol onbegrijpelijke scheepstermen is de roman nog steeds een goed leesbaar en meeslepend avontuur.
