This is book two of the small town series. Dixie has returned home to plan her fathers funeral. Her relationship with her father was tumultuous at best. The boy she left with out a word is still in town. Deke remembers Dixie well, first loves are hard to forget. Knowing she is back is messing with him. Will they be able to move on from the past, or will the pain and unanswered questions be too much?
This picks up right after the end of the the first. Dixie has just arrived. She is making her way through town and she bumps into Deke. Their first interaction was equal parts awkward and endearing. As they begin to navigate their new relationship they must also deal with the past. Deke is ever the hero for Dixie throughout. He helps her with the grief and disbelief she has in regards to her fathers passing.
There are still big emotions between them. The passion is still there. The ignite the pages as they start to draw closer. They both know there is an expiration date for their time together, but can not resist. This is all set with the backdrop of a small town that protects and loves their own fiercely. I love a good small town romance.
I related to Dixie in a big way. Her emotions as she deals with her dad’s passing were very real. Grief is such a complicated emotion, and this book delves into it in a relatable and real way. Dixie tries throughout the book to reconcile the man she knew and left with the man the town says he was. I love her drive and commitment to herself. She wants (for the most part) to chase her dreams and do what she wats. There are some outside factors that try to hinder her.
Overall, this is such a wonderful second part to this story. It does end with a cliffhanger of sorts. You will be begging for book three.

I love finding a good new-to-me author! This was fun, sexy and sweet. I'm looking forward to more from this series for sure.

This was a fun, fast second-chance small town romance that I really enjoyed. The two main characters were great, and the supporting characters (including the small town in TN) were a hoot. My only minor criticism is that the heroine's resolution at the end of the book seemed to come a little bit too quickly and easily, when compared with her feelings and progression through the rest of the book.
That being said, the writing and alternating points of view were well-done, and I genuinely enjoyed the small southern town feel of the book. A second book has been written in the series, and this book hints to who the two main characters will be. Ruthie is a new author to me, but she is definitely one that I will read again.

What a cute second chance romance! I love the small town feel. The relationships between the characters and the town is magical. The connection between Dixie and Deke is strong and heart warming. I love how you can tell they both truly care for each other even after so much time apart. I only wish there was more of a build up to Deke and Dixie’s reconciliation. I feel it was a little too easy but that did not take away from my overall enjoyment. I read it in one day and I really liked it.

I first read Ruthie Henrick's First Class Distraction and was introduced to Dixie and Deke briefly. Right away, I knew I needed more with these characters- and I'm so happy that I had the opportunity to read Heart of Dixie! The plot was one I love- second chance, and the characters were well-developed.
I highly recommend!

A sweet second-chance, small-town romance with little angst, just a dash of heat and whole lot of sweet.
Girl leaves small town with no intent on ever returning. Life causes girl to return after many years. Girl sees that many things have stayed the same, but many things have changed. Girl runs into the boy she left behind that has transformed into a man. Her plan is to do what needs to be done and leave in a trail of dust returning to her new life. This is a story about second chances and figuring out where the heart belongs.
“Give the town a chance, Dixie. Places change; people change. Sometimes they grow into each other better with time. Could be the same with you.”
This is my first book by this author, but it won’t be my last. I grew up in a small town so I always love a good small town romance series. I loved meeting Deke and Dixie. I hope that Beth and Shane get a book. Whether you are a small town girl, like me, or a big city chick, I would recommend you take a trip to Moreover, Tennessee.
