I had the pleasure of seeing this staged at the Guthrie in 2018, and I think the script is even better, which is really saying something. Probably this is because it’s my second encounter. I made the mistake of forgetting the ending and then reading this in public. 😭

Indecent is a poignant lesson on the dangers of censorship (which is all too relevant today). It exists in the intersection of queer and jewish and navigates that space beautifully. The reason for the lower rating is primarily because I was not expecting a certain event towards the end of the play that caught me off guard at a time that I was not prepared to read it. This play is wonderful, but make sure to check content warnings.
