Loved the easy diversity in this title. Zack is a relatable narrator, but the story is missing some key elements. The action driving the story is a struggle to sell chocolate for the 6th grade dance but we bypass Zack's personal struggle for the 6th grade struggle. I really wish the author addressed Zack's personal issues a little bit more. I also think the portrayal of the fat girl eating all the chocolate could be problematic, though I do think she is developed as a character, a desirable, positive character who just did something she shouldn't have, later in the book.
I received an ARC from the publisher.

Endearing middle grade read with relatable characters. I teach 6th grade and I feel like there are definitely Zacks, Joses, and Marquis' in my classes. Funny and a quick read. Highly recommend for middle grade kiddos. It's a realistic book and my kids always tell me they like to read about kids like themselves.
