I recently listened to this book on a very, very, very long car trip to Maine and back. It's a tough book to listen to without having a map of the area close by. However, it was interesting to read about an American figure, General Custer, almost mythological, and to learn that he was a quirky, vain, egotistical, and at times mediocre soldier. There's a lot of mystery surrounding Custer's last stand, but one theme that came through quite strongly was the abhorent way the "whites" treated the native peoples in the frontier days.

A very readable popular history of a most intriguing battle. Good stuff. I read the whole thing out loud to my husband.
