Lots of heartache but Carter knew what he wanted from the beginning.  Love Lucas and the relationship he had with both Avery and Carter. Great read.

I don’t normally expect to be sobbing like a baby by chapter 4 of a book, but alas, I was. This book was so good! I can’t wait to dive deeper into Birch Harbor. The steam was just right, the suspense was just enough, and the banter was pretty good. I struggled a bit piecing together the different people who had died from Birch Harbor and how the MCs were related to everyone. Even though this was the first book in the series, I did see that there is a related Birch Harbor series, so maybe that information was in those books? I also felt like Carter being ex-NFL was irrelevant and didn’t add anything to the story. I’m not sure why he couldn’t just be a cop if the football thing wasn’t going to play into his character. In fact, I really didn’t feel like we got to know Carter much at all. We got snippets of his backstory here and there, but no real character development like we did with Avery. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and the range of emotions it elicited. Editorial mistakes were minor, though definitely present.

I originally read this book under the previous title ‘Bent’ by The author’s prior pen name and really enjoyed it. The author indicated she had significantly rewritten the book, but I think that ay have been from a prior version because I didn’t find it to be any different from the Feb 2023 version I read.

A fairly quick read with interesting characters, humor, some drama and lots of emotions. I’ve read several books by the author set in Birch in different timelines so it’s sometimes difficult to remember which characters are together or still estranged. I definitely recommend reading any of the books about the Birch County first responders!

Avery James is a young woman who has experienced trauma and come out tough, yet with a kind heart. She loves her nephew and the 6th graders she teaches, but she also has a wild side.

Carter Maloney is back in Birch, and an officer on the Birch PD. I loved how one look at the grown up Avery James had him drooling and then some.

The storyline has them pushing each other’s buttons until they both give in to the sizzling desire. I loved how his parents knew his feelings for Avery, and her brother and father both respected his feelings for her even though Carter is a police officer and they run the Motorcycle Club.

Lots of emotions, several favorite characters who show up in her later books. Glad I had the chance to read this ARC.

This is such a brilliant read.
Carter is back in his home town and doing the job he loves, a police officer. When he has to nearly arrest Avery within a couple of weeks he can't stop thinking about her.
Avery has walls so high around her to keep people away but Carter wants to be the one knocks them down.
They are perfect together when she gives in and goes on a date with him and it doesn't take long for them to be inseparable but hurt and tragedy is never far away.
So much drama and a bit of suspense but also so much love. This book made me cry but then the ending saved me.
A must read with a brilliant ending.

This was the first book in the Birch Harbor: Coming Home series and I was absolutely hooked from start to finish! This is also the first book I've read by Rue Lennox. The focus of this book was all on Avery and Carter. I always love when we walk into the book with the two main characters already knowing one another. It makes it so much more believable when things start to get romantic between them. Although, that wasn't a problem anyway with the level of chemistry between Avery and Carter.

I've also discovered that I am a real sucker for the male lead being a cop. Or maybe that's just because of the way Rue made me fall for Carter as a character in general. The way he and Avery were able to get one another riled up had me laughing out loud and just waiting for the moment they finally just let their walls down and let one another in. And I certainly wasn't disappointed by that journey.

This was a fairly quick read but it kept me completely involved from start to finish. It was the perfect balance of romance and suspense, sweet and sassy, and unpredictable. I strongly recommend it and can't wait to read more from Rue Lennox!
