Great look into a mythological band. Humor and insight.
An amazing read. As a fan of both Joy Division and New Order, Hooky really gave so much more insight in this book than has been seen or heard via interviews and movie depictions. I love his charming humor and tangents just as much as I'll forever love this band.

An amazing look into my favorite band of all time. Peter Hook does an amaizng job retelling the story and adding lots of details. A must-read for all Joy Division fans.

I bought this book more than 10 years ago and finally read it because I'm trying to clean out my TBR pile.
Hooky really doesn't like Barney. That would be my number one takeaway. He softens a bit at the end in giving him credit for some of his musical contributions but these two hate each other and that is that and we've certainly seen it play out in the press.
One also comes away with even more sadness re: Ian Curtis' suicide. It really could have been prevented but would have required someone stepping in and saying take a break. Now. And no one wants to stop a money maker so the overwork continued.
I also learned that salt helps remove blood stains and I never knew that so yes, Hooky, thanks for the tip as you said in the book. It was a good one.

Interesting. But mostly dark due to how it all ended. He’d tried to lighten the load by highlighted the small time rocker life and their antics, but there was a dark cloud hanging over everything (understandably).

3 ⭐️ this was great to read as a joy division fan!! but also as a fan of factory records, the sex pistols and punk in general. ofc peter hook isnt the best writer bc his strongpoint is music, duh. still a very cool book and nice to see what ian was really like instead of just having 24 hr party people and control as portrayals of him.
