I did not feel for the characters, the pace was a bit weird with the writing style not being great. Also the plot was not enjoying enough for me to make it lose time to read it

As a book featuring witches, seeking to find a cure for a deadly disease, and a touch of romance, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. It was a post by the author on Threads that made me aware of this book, and as someone totally okay with characters in a fantasy book searching for a vaccine (apparently at least one reader thought that was weird), I decided to give it a go, and I'm very glad I did.

The twist towards the end totally caught me off guard, and I couldn't help if I'd completely missed some clues or foreshadowing earlier. This was the first fiction book I've read in years, so maybe there were some hints I'd missed.

I just couldn’t care about the characters at all and the plit wasn’t enough to keep me engaged

Whilst I reasonably enjoyed the last half of this book it took 15 chapters until I started to become interested and actually understand what was happening. Before that I found myself very confused.

The story was quite predictable and that made the main character come across a bit naive and stupid for not seeing it. It made me get a little frustrated and really not like her at points.

Glad it's a stand alone because if it was a series I wouldn't have picked up Book 2.

i read this before looking at the reviews and had no idea that there was reverse racism or antisemitic ideas in it, so i had idea going into that. i did enjoy it a lot when i first read it but now im second guessing it. im trying to be discerning while reading books and face my own inner thoughts as a white person and im trying to analyze things and see where people are coming from, but i honestly did not pick up on any of it until i read the reviews and thats odd to me

but i did genuinely enjoy it a lot and thought the romance and the themes of power and abuse and community were really well done. and it did seem like a lot of thought went into the book. i could relate a lot galen too
but its conflicting to see the reviews but yeah i just wanted to put it out there

I just couldn't get into the story. I realized I am not that invested in stories that center around teenagers. Also the enemies to lover just wasn't that believable. There wasn't any reason for them to hate each other.
