I was not aware until I went to Twitter after finishing this book that there were even more layers than what I had picked up on while reading. Choosing for the “oppressive” royal family to be Black/brown-coded while the “oppressed” FMC and one of the royal siblings’ love interests are white is so deeply problematic and this book CANNOT be read without acknowledging that. Blowing this aside for “aww what a cute sapphic book 🥺” is so deeply wrong on so many levels.

I really liked the character writing but the plot lost be about 2/3 the way through. It took me forever to read because it started to drag. But I did love the romance and the descriptive writing was great!

This book was so fun to read also fuck yeah a good sapphic fantasy i havent read one of those in a while. I think every character actually had their arcs resolved in a good way and the twists actually made sense. This book has the vibes of atla and is good at delivering the world building in a consise way and not throwing it all at me first chapter. I do wish a little bit more of the other tribes/provinces were shown more i felt like that was lacking but overall i really enjoyed the book.

This book was so sweet, but also so sad. I almost cried during some scene. I loved the slow burn romance and the found family was so cute. The plot twist was quite heartbreaking, both of them. They weren't shocking, but still worked, because of their impact. The characters were well developed, but I would have loved to see an outburst from MC, but it made sense from her personality. I kinda wanted the ending to change, especially a different solution to the problem of the MC. But it was really good and better than I expected, because I got it on a whim.
