this was a sapphic YA acotar (derogatory)
3.5 ⭐️ Good but slow paced where I would have to go back because I zoned out.

Started off so strong and amazing and about halfway through felt like it started slowing and wandering too much for me to stay engaged.
Okay so I haven’t finished reading yet but here are dot points about some things I didn’t like and things I did like for me to talk about in depth once I’ve finished the book.
Dislikes:
- story was more suited to a multiple book series/duology as the timeline was very rushed.
- sapphic relationship didn’t have any chemistry cause it was rushed (no build up to a confession or realisation of feelings, pretty much just ‘she’s pretty - now I’m going to ditch all the beliefs I’ve ever been taught cause why not)
- all character relationships were very sudden - later in the book it would reference a moment between 2 characters that wasn’t actually a scene in the book. I think if the author actually wrote all of those moments then it would have made the relationships feel real and like they developed from somewhere.
- main character was too quick to ditch all her previous beliefs (felt like the author rushed it cause it was easier to progress the story)
- the constant rhetorical questions. Made it feel very YA compared to the content and writing style other than the questions. Made Ranka’s character arc feel very rushed.
- many choices of characters just don’t make sense and are contradicting, especially at the end of the book.
Likes:
- I liked the banter between the characters but I really wish it was more fleshed out. It kind of just started very suddenly.
- Storyline itself was very well thought out. Bloodwitches, elemental powers, humana vs witches etc. The timeline was Very rushed though.
- Liked the main characters’ personalities
- I liked the writing style other than the rhetorical questions
- the world building was nice - not too complex but not too simple
- I liked the shorter chapters. Gives you time to take in what’s happening.
- I thought chapter 75 was beautiful.

1/5 stars
I was first introduced to this book by a booktuber who I had followed for some time. I was intrigued by the way the book was described. I simply added it to my TBR list without bothering to check much information about the book. I was disappointed to find out that certain details were omitted while recommending this book. This book is an example of reverse racism. Having two black siblings in power is fine, but not when you are characterizing them in a way that harms them. Not only is this problematic by itself, but the book is also antisemitic. The main character being a blood witch is another horrible stereotype used against the Jewish community. The author refuses to respond and has chosen to censor their comments. Due to this, I personally will not be wasting my time by reading this book.

P.S. There is more than one review referencing these problems, but I can't link them all.

This would have been a 5 star but Ranka’s tendency to monologue while also panicking about how time was running out made me a little crazy.
