shame on everyone who review bombed this début authors novel. those claiming this is some reverse racism of a black oppressor and white oppressed have obviously not read past the first chapter.

this is a book about learning to stand up for yourself, learning what real love is, and healing through trauma.

the fantasy world and witch covens is very interesting, and i love the unique aspects of blood witches.

there were times that i felt like i could predict where it was going, though i didn’t mind because the writing and story was very intriguing ( and turns out i was wrong half the time!! there were quite a few interesting plot twist )

There are no heroes here, Aramis. No villains. There are only monsters—the ones we need, the ones we spare, and the ones we burn. Which of those do you think Ranka is? Which do you want her to become?”

I really liked this book. Sapphics, magic, and a boat of trauma and growth—my absolute jam. It’s only a four star because the writing could feel a little repetitive at times (not the plot, the actual wording), BUT ITS STILL 100% WORTH READING!!! If you’re on the fence about reading it, do it. You’re not going to be disappointed! (☆^ー^☆)

By the 60% mark of the audio, I realized I didn’t care what happened to these characters. The premise started as good but it seemed to just get repetitive and unnecessarily wordy.
