I had high hopes but every other sentence was a reminder of her success with Eat, Pray, Love.

Gilbert is entertaining and fanciful. It's actually the fanciful part that sometimes hits me wrong. While I love hearing about how some people used believe a genius was a separate entity that used to inspire artists, I find it irksome to be told to believe in magic. But Big Magic did energize me. The stories were entertaining and the 'good enough' mentality over eternal quest for perfection is something I need to hear over and over again. Overall, a fun, fast, and worthwhile read.

I love Elizabeth Gilbert's writing. I was initially put off my the casual writing style but persevered and I glad I did. This book would appeal to anyone hoping to succeed in the creative arts. I am in the middle of a mid-life career change and found some very inspiring messages. I have struggled to find my "passion". But as Gilbert states you do not need passion to succeed. Just follow your curiosity and it will lead you to your destination. My favorite quote from the book is "Perfectionism is just a high-end, haute couture version of fear in fancy shoes and a mink coat, pretending to be elegant when actually its just terrified" (pg 167). Words to live by!
