fucked up and devastating. i thoroughly enjoyed it haha the writing was beautiful and i loved the way the characters spoke and interacted with one another. definitely very reflective of the catholic-religious guilt i felt growing up as a queer person, so that was.. fun lol

This novel is an absolute masterpiece and goes straight to my all-time favourites. The audiobook was superb. Strongly recommended – I didn't want it to end.

I enjoyed this book a lot but I'm not sure most of the people I know would enjoy it.......I'm deep into Shakespeare (especially the Henry plays) so this was a fun(?) reimagining of those stories, though this one was overtly gay and also had a lot of dead dove elements. I thought I had a good grip on what the book would be like and then the incest started LMAO.
This book is kind of slice of life-y if it was sad and reflective and kind of dark. You laugh with Hal bc his life really is insane and also Harry Percy is ridiculous, but then you watch him suffer and deal with a lot over the course of the year or so the book takes place in. Em and I listened to this together and we wondered if it was going to be a grand ending but it was like many of Shakespeare's plays: a wedding takes place somewhere in the story and then there's quiet finish. I love London so I enjoyed seeing it from Hal's point of view.
Again I am not sure another person would enjoy this book bc the plot is ??? (as in there's really no outlined storyline, you're just kind of living Hal's life) but also it's emotional and touching at some parts and deeply uncomfortable at others which I really liked. I would peek at the content warnings though cause not everyone is like me and enjoys surpriseincest LOL
