Holding off my review until I’m well-versed in narrative theory. However, this mathematical conceptualization of the fairy tale as existing upon one axis is compelling. Also, I’m sure it was highly influential within its field—so pretty cool!

Parue en 1928, la « Morphologie du conte » de Vladimir Propp est à l'analyse structurale du récit ce que le Cours de Saussure est à la linguistique : la source d'inspiration. Cent contes de fées russes permettent à Propp d'identifier une matrice dont tous les autres sont issus. Reconnaissant en lui son précurseur, Lévi-Strauss, il évoque son « immense mérite » et ses « intuitions prophétiques ».

Very interesting, but equally dry. Not always as consistent as I would have liked...
