Not an action heavy book, but there was a lot of intrigue, politics, and character development, and the book hooked me the whole way through. Wonderful like always. I hate when Fitz and the Fool are at odds.

This one was more or less a set up for the next but one that intrigued me at points, frustrated (in the good way) at others. The exploration of Fitz’s relationship with the Fool continues and keeps me engaged the whole way while drip feeding more information about the Skill and the Wit. Watching the Liveship Traders trilogy interweave it amazing and Hobb’s subtly is masterful.
Sometimes I wonder why I love Fitz, given how often he's an idiot. I'm sure the Fool feels the same, haha. ONWARDS TO BOOK 3 and possible tears over it.

A fantastic improvement to The Assassin's Apprentice. I adore The Foil and his old soul. Though he was not as cryptic he still felt distant and unattainable, the perfect character you are just dying to know more about.

I love how layered the characters and their relationships are. Robin Hobb's writing is so compelling that I don't even care about the slow pace and lack of plot.
