There were some really excellent reveals here and I think it sets up really nicely for a good 3rd book. These books have just been such a fun escape.

I’m sort of dissatisfied with this…. I expected it to be more plot heavy and kept waiting for them to set out to the Outislands but it didn’t happen. Some parts did drag in this but I never was really bored bc I love all the characters now. I LOVED seeing Jek again and those few chapters where she spoke to Fitz were the most entertaining of the whole series so far HHAHA. My main issue with this book was the Fool and Fitz falling out 😔 I missed their friendship and camaraderie SOOO much in this. Weirdly enough I was getting so sick of Chade like why was he in EVERY conversation especially towards the end HAHA. It was interesting though to see how much he really wanted the Skill. I loved Thick and Dutiful in this also and their friendship with Fitz it kills me. There’s nothing like a near death experience for Fitz to get the plot going HAH it probably was one of my favourite parts of this book, in how they came together to form their “coterie”. I’m struggling so bad with the Fool though like be honest to Fitz!! In the next book HE BETTER be on that damn island. AND BURRICH OMGG 😭😭😭 the way he was so upset with what happened to Fitz I was WAITING FOR THEM TO reunite! Patience too I just know these reunions will be so sad 😔

This series and especially this book brought me to heart wrenching tears more than once, from sadness and beauty. The friendship between Fitz and the Fool has been devastatingly beautiful to experience across these books and will be a long time favourite.
Robbin Hobb wrote a true epic fantasy full of love in many forms, grief, adventure and some of my favourite characters of all time.
