Loved the hell out of this. (Read the first two volumes back to back.) It's the classic "Clark Kent in Kansas" kind of origin story, but for Supergirl. I really adore her friendships with her two best friends (one of whom is a lesbian) and all the little everyday touches like her parents looking like middle-aged parents (and her one friend's mom, who walks with crutches), and one family being country-music fans (but not white), and another having six kids (and not for especially religious reasons as far as we know). It just seems like real people.

And then, of course, Kara's powers. She's sixteen (it's set around her sixteenth "birthday", which is the anniversary of when she was found, since they don't know when she was born or where she comes from or that Krypton even exists, yet) and going through the usual teenaged ups and downs...plus she has powers that are sometimes reliable and sometimes not. And then, well...you get the strong impression that somebody with nefarious intentions is also trying to figure her out. OOPS.

Love it. Want more.

I thoroughly enjoyed this comic, it falls right in with my set of humor. The Kara's friends are also a refreshing duo that aren't the stereotypical best-girl-friends. My only complaint would have to be how their faces were drawn sometimes. I'm not sure if it's just the artist's style or if was intentional or not, but it make the 15-16 year old girls look like their in the mid-thirties at times.

This was really charming, and I'm super stoked to see where Tamaki takes Kara. I love how much we get of her with her friends.
