"Războiul e o lume, nu un eveniment... Totul e altfel aici: și peisajul, și omul, și cuvintele."

Această carte nu este neapărat genul de carte pe care mi l-aș cumpăra eu. Însă mă bucur mult că am primit-o cadou și că am putut să citesc ceva un pic mai neobișnuit pentru mine.
'Soldații de Zinc' constă din mărturiile multor oameni afectați direct sau indirect de războiul din Afganistan din perspectiva sovietică: fragmente intime, triste și profund mișcătoare.
Cartea asta nu m-a ajutat să înțeleg acest război ca și eveniment, adică din punct de vedere istoric, și totuși m-a ajutat să întru în acea lume cruntă a războiului: amintiri, trăiri și simțiri personale și tragice.

"E imposibil să povestești totul. A fost ceea ce a fost, după a rămas ceea ce am văzut și am ținut minte, deja numai o parte din întreg, iar mai încolo are să fie ceea ce pot să povestesc în cuvinte - a zecea parte... Asta în cazul cel mai bun, dacă mă străduiesc."

"Și mi-am dat seama că acasă nimeni nu are nevoie de noi, de ceea ce am trăit noi acolo. E ceva în plus, nepotrivit. Și noi suntem în plus și nepotriviți."

Și încă câteva din pasajele care m-au mișcat cel mai mult:

"Pe dinafară sunt întreg și nevătămat, dar pe dinăuntru ard."

"Bărbații luptă la război, iar femeile după... Noi după război avem de luptat..."

"Uneori îi compuneam scrisori și de câte trei patru ori pe zi și i le trimiteam. Mi se părea că, atunci când mă gândesc la el, când mi-e dor de el, îl apăr."

"Armele ne amplifică fărădelegile."

Nem sei bem o que dizer ... para começar tinha as expectativas muito altas o que é sempre mau presságio, a probabilidade de dar para o torto é grande. Andava a namorar esta autora à muito tempo, até tinha uma lista de potencias leituras dela. Por outro lado mea-culpa, devia ter lido as sinopses e descrição do livro com mais atenção, com certeza me teria apercebido que este é um livro de testemunhos e que não tem narrativa nenhuma. Por último buscava perceber um pouco este povo russo e de alguma forma perceber as suas motivações, pior a emenda que o soneto, se já era difícil de aceitar pior ficou. Paciência! Ainda assim trabalho louvável da autora, não sei é se um prémio pulitzer não seria mais adequado que o nobel da literatura!

Kolmekymmentä vuotta myöhemmin listalle voi lisätä Ukrainan, ja edelleen Venäjällä halutaan uskotella, että jokainen nuori mies, joka lähetetään vieraaseen maahan mukanaan sotilaspuku, annos pilaantunutta purkkiruokaa ja lupa tappaa, on oman aikansa suuren isänmaallisen sodan sankari.

Sodanvastaisen kirjallisuuden klassikko, vastalause militarismille ja totalitarismille. "Emme selviydy menneisyydestä, se huutaa tulevaisuuteen. Ja sitten tulee uusi petos ja uutta verenvuodatusta. Menneisyys on vielä edessämme."

It was not easy to read and one might think it redundant. But each story is so personal that while the subject and conclusions are often the same, they are so very differ.

Obviously heavy going, but probably essential reading if your country rides waves of nationalist sentiment to forcibly occupy foreign soil and wage endless wars, and currently plays on the brink of yet another...

A stronger case against wars anywhere is hard to imagine!

It was fascinating how Soviet Russia hid the real war from its citizens and sold it in terms of doing its international duty or spreading the good word of socialism, but not much different from what The US did in Vietnam, or the ‘allies’ did in Iraq and Afghanistan. Heart rendering descriptions of people’s experiences and stories of how war can make good men turn bad. Stories of someone who shot up a village after his friend was brutally killed by a villager or prisoners being escorted that never made it back to camp after the escorts comrades had been killed. All valid, but the scales are heavily weighted on the side of evil being caused by war. War does cause good men to commit horrendous acts, but it also opens a clearing in the forest where the man’s evil side can show itself without any need for provocation. I would have like a little more of that part of the story told.
