Several YT videos on learning French suggested reading personal development books to avoid old-fashioned literary language and to pick up on words useful in daily life. Shortly afterwards I came across this book and the title appealed to me, so I ordered it immediately.

It's very useful for learning French, but I also like it as a personal development book because it's a little different. I like how Giordano turned it into a novel, playing with the form. It's not high literature, absolutely not. But it's an enjoyable, easy read - even in French, it took me less than a week and I'm a slow reader. And I found it motivating. Reading about the main character Camille made me want to change some things in my life and her emotions and reactions are very relatable. She came to life for me, as an example of how my life could be.

I like the fact that Giordano is very down to earth, not too spiritual. You can use all the things that Camille does to improve your own life, it's very practical, and there's a handy list of all the terminology at the back of the book. It doesn't contain any new ideas for anyone who's familiar with the personal development genre. For me it was a nice reminder, I've found it's all too easy to forget about what I've learned and fall back into old patterns. I'd recommend it as an introduction or a reminder to anyone feeling a little unsatisfied about their lives looking for tips to make small changes in a very practical and manageable way. If that's not what you're looking for, this is probably not for you.

Cute little book that reads more like a self-help than a novel.

This is an objectively terrible novel… it’s not actually even a novel at all and I’m surprised it’s marketed as one. It’s a self help book. The scathing StoryGraph reviews are hilariously accurate.

However, against my better judgment, I found this book entertaining, thought provoking and inspirational. It’s a creative take on explaining how to make positive changes in your life.
