This is my go-to version of The Night Before Christmas. The gate fold always makes the kids gasp in delight. The illustrations are stunning. With older kids, I use the gate fold to explain why Rudolph isn't in the book, intro to context clues!

Artwork is beautiful and compliments the story well

Every year on Christmas Eve, my husband obliges me by reading this out loud to me.

This was a reread and I don't typically write another review for books I reread because I usually feel the same about it upon reread so I am just going to leave my original review here. I don't think I have ever read this before. Of course I've heard of it. This was a very quick and easy read and add in the illustrations it was a joy to read and one I will reread every year.

"Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night." A top shelf Christmas classic and annual read on Christmas Eve!

This isn't our edition (though I LOVE Jessie Wilcox Smith)...I so debated which to get Nolan as a gift this year: Mary Engelbreit's? Jan Brett's? Tasha Tudor's? I went with a used 1976 version by Holly Hobbie that we love. Can't find that edition on goodreads though.
