Blood is a vampire story, but there isn't really much about the conventional vampire stuff. The art is surreal and beautiful, at times helping the story, but often muddying the waters. Technically, this is a story within a story: the old king who's refusing to die listens to the story of Blood, the vampire. The cyclical nature of the story becomes more apparent towards the very end, which is not a surprise, but it is well done and a pleasure to read. The strangest part is perhaps Little One, a mechanized, floating person who may or may not be young and who often makes the most sense.
All in all, a strange, surreal story that makes more sense intuitively than by reading the words on the page. Certainly not for those who need clear cut plot lines, but recommended for those who like flying things, the dessert, strange songs, and ancient tombs.

I'm with the people who commented that the art was gorgeous but the story didn't make sense. All I got out of it is that things go in cycles and even in pretty eighties, avant garde comics women are badly written. eeeeeh
