The first few pages were enough to make me want to vomit. Not for me.

Disenfranchised angels, a cyclops who wants to be a human, the two women who love him, a mad-phychologist and a mad-photographer, all under the looming presence of a magical forest in Africa. What a strange book! It nestles uncomfortably between fantasy and science fiction while pointing its compass decidedly toward the weird. At times boring and at other times fascinating, it's a hard book to give a personal review of.

This trilogy is my favourite ever. Spirituality, art history, colonialist fascism and a cyclops all collide in a big fantasy forest. The whole trilogy feels like a lyrical, epic poem, mixing real historical figures into a surreal fantasy. Can’t recommend all three enough.
