I've been binging thrillers recently. I just love the anticipation. This book. This book burned me not once. Not twice. But THRICE.

This is my first Alex Finlay book so maybe seasoned fans would know better but I've never seen such a unique writing style. I couldn't figure out how the stories were connected at first. It took a while. And then everything fell into place and I locked my phone, stared at my husband, and said "what just happened?".

Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the advance copy, I thoroughly enjoyed the whiplash.

If Something Happens to Me
by Alex Finlay
4/5 ⭐️

If Something Happens To Me is a tangled thriller about a missing girl named Ali, a corrupt sheriff’s office, and a prominent crime boss. The story is told from multiple POVs: Ryan, Ali’s old boyfriend, now older in Italy on a law school trip, Poppy, a young war veteran, returning home to Kansas, to serve as the deputy sheriff in her hometown, and Shane, the head of a big crime organization in Philadelphia.

The book featured numerous characters, but the short chapters and intense scenes kept me fully engaged. I delved into this book blindly and I believe that was the best approach. A clear and open mind is essential to grasp the suspenseful plot and intricately intertwined characters. My one complaint was that the ending was too rushed and resolved too perfectly. I had to read it twice to ensure I had all the details and character roles worked out. This was my first book by Alex Finlay, and I definitely look forward to reading more of his works.

This was my first Alex Finlay novel, and I will definitely be reading more! With its fast pace, short chapters, and multiple POVs, it was a quick and easy read that I couldn’t put down. I was quickly pulled into the story, and the suspense kept me entertained and turning the pages to find out what happened next. There were so many twists that I did not see coming, and one in particular (you’ll know which one when you read it!) actually made me gasp out loud. If this is what I can expect from Finlay’s other works, then I am looking forward to reading more from him!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Paul Dateh, Helen Laser, and John Pirhalla. Another superb production from Macmillan Audio, and I am so happy it was a multicast narration. This is a great audiobook to binge in one sitting. The narrators all did such a wonderful job, and I felt like I was watching a movie. Highly recommend!

Thank you to Minotaur Books and Macmillan Audio for the ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.

This one was definitely entertaining!!

I liked how fast-paced it was and the overall mystery. I liked the concept of "codes" and needing to find the right person/code. I also enjoyed the different POVs and how everything overlapped & came back around full circle to get solved.

I figured some things out slowly before they were revealed but not everything. It was still an easy audiobook to follow along with. I loved how one thing always opened a new rabbit hole to enter but you never knew if it was the right thing to focus on. Overall, well written and a great story with characters you actually wanted to root for.
