Teenagers Ryan and Ali are at a secluded romantic spot when their car door suddenly flies open, Ryan is hit on the head, and Ali (and her car) disappears — for good. Ryan remembers only one detail from the incident: the hands of the man who yanked him from the car. While the police have no evidence to convict Ryan, he's presumed guilty in the court of public opinion. Trying to escape this stigma, he moves and changes his name, hoping he's put this trauma to rest. It seems he was successful, until years later, when Ali's car is found at the bottom of the lake, along with two dead men and an envelope that says "if something happens to me" in her handwriting. Inside is a mysterious code, one that sends Ryan on an international adventure.

"If Something Happens to Me" is fast-paced, with short chapters that make it easy to keep reading just that little bit more. This book will best appeal to those who like action-packed thrillers, and will likely appeal a little less to those who prefer psychological ones. There's a lot going on, with quite a few characters and a couple overlapping themes. I didn't predict the twist, which is always a win, but I did find it a bit underwhelming, and I found the "why" behind it all a bit over the top. Because the twist came somewhset early, midway through the book, I felt the pacing sag as we waited out the inevitable resolution. Still, it was an entertaining read and a quick way to pass the time, and I'm glad to see that many are enjoying it. The audiobook production was done very well and the narration was just about flawless.

This one started off so good. Then it seemed to kind of drag in the middle. It felt kinda YA in a sense. That kinda threw me for some reason. I didn't expect the twist which added a lot to the story for sure. As much as there was going on I was never truly sucked into the story. I found the end to be a bit everywhere and hard to keep up with. I listened to this one and was able to go back and re-listen to parts and that definitely helped. The narrators did a great job. It just wasn't my favorite. I know others who have and would love it though. So definitely give it a shot!

Welp we got another banger! I listened via Libro.fm so it was a bit challenging at first to remember all the characters since I wasn't reading but then it started to come together.

So chapter one happens are you're like "yup this is gonna be goooood". Then you go on and you're like "why are there so many people, how is this even connected?"

But then part 1 ends and I literally gasped and said "OHHHHH". That was twist number 1 (to me) and I was like perfect cause I didn't see it coming.

Get into part 2 and I'm like ok plot is moving fast things are happening I like.

We get to the climax and 2 things that are kinda predictable happen and I'm like meh okay but still good for the plot. Book is still top tier (like 4 stars).

But you gave it 5 stars? Yes I did because the last and final twist/call back had my jaw on the floor. Loved it. I think everything was wrapped up nicely as well.

Anyway definitely read it. This could be a book to get you out of a reading slump.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning, if it weren’t for having responsibilities, I probably would have finished it within days. I loved the multiple point of views and short chapters, it keeps things quick and helps with the twists. I didn’t think it had a crazy twist or tons of shock factor. It was just a fun read! Things happened quickly to keep the story intense and captivating. I wanted to find out this story so badly and see how it all unfolded. It gave me Harlan Coben vibes, which is a high compliment because he is one of my favorites. Very much enjoyed this and so happy to have had the privilege of reading it early!
