Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for sending me an early copy of this audiobook! All opinions are my own!

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, and I still came out of it surprised at the end. It was full of twists and turns in every single chapter, and I can honestly say there wasn't a single moment that I was bored. It left me absolutely intrigued to the point that I read it much faster than I normally would because I simply needed to know what was going to happen so that I could stop thinking about it!

I think my favorite part of this book is how many different story lines are woven together. At first I was worried that it wasn't going to come together well enough at the end, but I think it was really expertly done, and I greatly enjoyed watching things fall into place.

This was an absolutely wild ride, and I would highly recommend it to any thriller/mystery lover out there!

This book was so good that I flew through it in a day.

This kicked off with some action and it felt like it never really let up. The multiple POV was easy to get into, and keeping all the characters straight wasn’t hard, especially since they’re so different from one another. The chapters are pretty short and would usually leave off on a cliffhanger, and both of these things made this book easy to binge. I was so caught up in the mystery and wondering where the story was going to go, and there were multiple twists that had my jaw hanging open. The end especially had me on the edge of my seat, and I liked the way the epilogue tied things up.

This was my first book by Alex Finlay and now I’m going to rush to read his others!

Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the advance copy.

I was expecting this to be full of high school or college aged characters based on the summary, but it was completely different from my original predictions. There are a lot of characters to keep track of and several also have nicknames to learn, so the beginning felt overwhelming as I tried to organize everyone and their relationships with each other in my head. Once the connecting thread was revealed, it became a totally different story than I was expecting. It was a short book that felt fast-paced and could definitely be finished in one sitting. If you’re new to thrillers, this would be a good book to start you off.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio #MacAudio2024 for the gifted audiobook.

I was immediately drawn in from the first chapter. The book was a quick read and I finished it in just one day. The multiple points of view and narrators made it engaging and kept me hooked. The various storylines and timelines that began to converge about halfway through had me eagerly trying to anticipate how they would intersect. The numerous twists and turns held my attention, and every chapter shifted my expectations for the story's direction.

The narrators were fantastic. Helen Laser's performance drew me in with her range of voices and emotional depth. This was my first audiobook with John and Paul, and they brought out the tough side of the characters they portrayed. I'm looking forward to experiencing more of their work in the future.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fast-paced mysteries and thrillers. The book and audiobook are set to be released on May 28.

Dang it! I desperately wanted to like this one. I started it on my Kindle and was feeling meh about the storyline, so I started the audio. While the audio was entertaining, there was just too much going on. It was fast-paced and twisty, but it almost pulled me in too many directions, ultimately making the plot too far-fetched and unbelievable. Because I am who I am, I figured out where the story was headed from a fairly early point, but I didn't enjoy the path the author took to get there.

💨 Fast-paced
📝 Multi-layer story
🔀 Twisty plot
🗣️ Multiple POV

⚠️ Torture and extreme bullying of a teenager

My opinion on this book might not be popular, but that's the beauty of reading, not every book is meant for everyone. If you're a fan of high-octane, action-packed stories, then If Something Happens to Me might be your cup of tea.

A BIG Thank You to NetGalley, Alex Finlay & Minotaur Books for gifting me this advanced reader’s copy in exchange for my honest review!

SYNOPSIS: For the past five years, Ryan Richardson has relived that terrible night. The car door ripping open. The crushing blow to the head. The hands yanking him from the vehicle. His girlfriend Ali’s piercing scream as she is taken. With no trace of Ali or the car, a cloud of suspicion hangs over Ryan. But with no proof and a good lawyer, he’s never charged, though that doesn’t matter to the podcasters and internet trolls. Now, Ryan has changed his last name, and entered law school. He's put his past behind him. Until, on a summer trip abroad to Italy with his law-school classmates, Ryan gets a call from his father: Ali's car has finally been found, submerged in a lake in his hometown. Inside are two dead men and a cryptic note with five words written on the envelope in Ali’s handwriting: If something happens to me…Then, halfway around the world, the unthinkable happens: Ryan sees the man who has haunted his dreams since that night. As Ryan races from the rolling hills of Tuscany, to a rural village in the UK, to the glittering streets of Paris in search of the truth, he has no idea that his salvation may lie with a young sheriff’s deputy in Kansas working her first case, and a mobster in Philadelphia who’s experienced tragedy of his own.

SPOILER-FREE REVIEW: Alex Finlay writes another unputdownable novel that comes out May 28th! From the very start, this is a compulsive, action-packed story – full of mystery and of course… a cliffhanger! I had to keep reading to find out what happened to the female main character! I kept guessing throughout the book to see how all ends would be tied up! With many twists and turns, this made for an excellent thriller! He sure knows how to write them!

Happy Reading!
