If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finlay starts off with a captivating prologue that leaves you wanting more. You immediately getting pulled into the story of what happened to Allison. The story then jumps forward to 5 years later when everyone is still trying to pick up the pieces.
It is told in multiple view points that slowly reveal the plot of secrets and lies. It keeps you wondering how everything is going to connect and how everything is going to end. You get wrapped up in the story as you try to figure out how everyone and everything is connected, making it difficult to pause reading it for any reason. Alex Finlay definitely adds another hit to his repertoire with If Something Happens to Me. He is quickly becoming a master of mystery writing.
Thanks to Netgalley and St Martin's Minotaur Press for the advanced copy, The opinions are my own.

A fun and all encompassing thriller from Alex Finlay… AGAIN. I’ve been a fan since reading The Night Shift and will continue to be after reading If Something Happens To Me. Finlay knows how to write a compelling story with multiple POVs and timelines and focuses on the humanity of their characters.
This wasn’t the most spectacular thriller I’ve ever read but is definitely worth a read if this is your genre. My only criticism is that the ending felt a little too neat and wrapped up in a bow but other than that it was a great read and I’ll always keep an eye out for anything from this authour.

If Something Happens To Me starts with Ryan and Ali making out in their car when the door is ripped open and Ali is kidnapped. Ryan wakes up hours later after being knocked out and Ali and the car are missing.
The story is then told through different POVs including the new sheriff deputy, a mobster, his employees and Ryan. I absolutely loved the premise of this book but unfortunately it ended up just being alright.
I saw the twist halfway through the book coming a mile away (and it was a good one!) but was just simply bored with the story the rest of the way. The ending was good though!
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books !

I really enjoyed the short and alternating views that these chapters held. It made the book hard to put down when you see you only have a few minutes each chapter to read. I did enjoy this book a lot. I went in blind and so it may have taken me a bit to get on board but I was well and truly invested about the halfway point.

The book opens with a great hook. Ryan’s girlfriend is pulled from the car and he is struck with a blow to the head. The next morning when he wakes up, both his girlfriend and the car are missing.
We catch up with Ryan 5 years later in Italy.
The mystery of what happened to Ali, Ryan’s girlfriend is what hooked me. And the fact that her car disappeared along with her added a more puzzling element to the mystery.
Multiple POV’s are used in the novel. Some make sense like Poppy - the deputy sheriff investigating the case, while others tell a different story.
It’s unclear how they tie into Alison and Ryan but eventually it all comes together in the most satisfying way. It almost feels like a movie at times.
From start to finish - there is so much positive momentum. Action drives this story and does not stop till the very end. It might just be my favourite novel Alex Finlay has written so far.

If Something Happens To Me is another fast moving story by Alex Finlay set in the middle of nowhere Kansas, the city of Brotherly Love and various places in Europe as new evidence emerges in a cold case of a missing teen. Ryan is a law student traveling with his class in Europe when he sees a man from his past tied to a terrifying night. Poppy McGee is a new deputy sheriff back in her hometown and when the car of a missing girl is pulled from a nearby lake they find two dead bodies and a mysterious note. Shane O’Leary is an influential Philadelphia businessman and will do anything to protect his family. The story unfolds as all of them try to find answers to their questions and eventually their stories intersect in ways they couldn’t imagine.
The pacing was perfect for this story and the fact that it follows several characters made it move even fast. The chapters are short and the POVs are clear for how often they switch. After a few chapters in I knew what was gonna happen in the story but i enjoyed the characters and was so engaged in the story that it didn’t phase me. Out of the four books by the author that I’ve read, this one moves into top spot.
