I was excited to read this, I always enjoy books with this kind of mystery but I found the story to be slow and the ending to be rushed.

My Review: When I first started reading this one I found myself pulled into the story. I will have to see if some of this comes up in the finished copy so please be advised that I am saying this via an ARC. So one major issue I had with this one was that early on Cash (yes that is his name) talks about having one of those DNA test things from like Ancestry.com and then that's it. Its never mentioned after that. I thought it was a little weird and well kind of stupid to bring it up if nothing came of it.

The entire story about a girl who was adopted but might have been kidnapped was great. It had danger and mystery, a little romance, and a lot of heart. But I kind of wished that a little of it would have been cleaned up just a little more than what it was. My ARC of this book is 336 pages and I think this could have been cut down by say 50-75 pages give or take. Towards the middle parts when they are in the thick of the mystery of finding out for sure if Chole had been kidnapped it began to drag a lot. So that was kind of disappointing as I think this is the first book by this author that I didn't flat out a scream from the rooftops loved. I mean don't get me wrong I did LOVE it but as it sits it wasn't the 5 stars read I was hoping for.

So all in all this book had two main characters it was told in alternating POV of them then one other POV towards the middle-end parts. I won't tell you who that one is since I don't want to spoil anything. I loved Chloe and me really kind of wanted to bend Cash over my knee and bust his butt. (not in a sexual way btw but as a parent). I really wished that this book would have had a little more of him coming to terms with who he was and the issues he harbored against his past. The book pretty much takes like three paragraphs and does that but it would have been nice to really see him talk with his foster parents and really come to terms with his anger and guilt. Another thing I wished would have really happened which I guess it kind of did but not how I really wanted it to. Chloe in this is pretty much the parent. Her mom is going downhill, she is getting over Cancer (which was hard to read about since my mom is doing the same thing), she is going through a divorce from her husband cheating on her and of course, she is just not doing well. I would have liked to see Chole to break a few eggs as she said and rip into her mom about her being the child and her being the mom. She did yell at her about taking pills which I thought was great. But I wish they would have had a real conversation about what was going on. For Chole's dad, I think his side of the story worked well. I was kind of sad of one turn in the story that although was ok I was really hoping that a certain purchase was going to be him trying to win Chole's mom back. But alas it was not meant to be. Last but not least Cash's foster parents were great we got to learn a little about them etc. I don't really have anything to say about them.

I do have to say that I loved that parents were actually in the story and not just one but two full sets of mom and dad!! I mean YES PLEASE!!

The romance in this one was light but deep. I really loved the epilogue we got at the end. Although this two fall in love early I didn't feel like it was insta-love I felt like they had spent time together and bonded. So that was wonderful.

So the mystery of wither or not Chole had been kidnapped. This I have to say got me going at first. Towards the end of the book, you learn if it was one way or another and the secret is out of the bag. I kind of wished that the author would have omitted those parts out since it took the mystery out of the story from then on. You know the truth and that's that. Although it became somewhat predictable I still enjoyed getting to that part and learning the truth.

At the end of this one, I kind of wished that this would have centered around Chole finding out the truth sooner then them dealing with the outcome of that truth. Then the danger towards the end wouldn't have felt so rushed and more could have happened. With Chole and her family dealing with emotions etc. As well as Cash and Chole learning how to deal with their romance. And Cash with his issues.

There is a lot more romance than expected. It didn’t say much about romance in the disc

I am a fan of this author's Shadow Falls series. Thus the reason that wanted to read this book. I will admit that I have read a few books recently with this same type of concept. Sadly, this book did not work for me. Not, because of the fact that as I mentioned I have already read several books like this but because I personally, did not feel that this book transitioned very well to all reading ages. Yes, the book may be targeted towards young adult readers but most of these books are being read by adults as well; so authors write books with this in mind.

Young adult readers may like this book. What I struggled with is the character connection. I had no problems with the Shadow Falls series. Instantly, I connected with those characters and the stories. In this book, Chloe came off as a bitter teenager. I even excused this behavior for a little while but than it got on my nerves. When it came to Cash, I was unsure whether I liked him or not. I am going to say I am neutral towards him.

The overall pacing of the story moved slowly to the point that I even skipped ahead a couple of times. It did get better in the latter half of the book.

Special thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When I first started this it reminded me too much of Hopeless by Colleen Hoover. I disliked that. But the more I kept reading the more I realized that although they both have similar backbones, the stories are a lot different.

I liked Chloe a lot. It broke my heart having to see her have to be the middle man between her parents and also having to be the parent to her mom. She handled her entire situation with so much grace and I really respect that.

Cash kind of drove me nuts. Especially with how he handled the Fullers. They clearly loved him and I know he had complicated feelings towards them, but it still sucked seeing him hurt them further. I did like him though. He was a great boyfriend to Chloe and I'm glad that he didn't hide his suspicion about Chloe from her for long.

I really really loved the ending of the story. It was perfect and I just adore happy endings. It was realistic too, which is another big bonus.

I definitely recommend In Another Life to lovers of YA contemporary!

I could definitely see this story translate well as a Netflix film. You hear that Netflix? Please and thank you.

Chloe’s senior year is the pits: on top of her parents divorcing, she is starting at a new school. Ripped away from her old life and friends she must start over while taking care of her mother and resenting her father. Oh and the real kicker…someone suspects that she was in fact kidnapped as a child and her real parents live nearby. As if high school isn’t hard enough?!

It’s fast paced and holds your attention. You can whip through this book in a few days. As a young adult book, I felt it was relatable to high school life and teenage emotions. Being adopted, or a foster child, added another complex layer of emotions; and, author C.C. Hunter explored a wide range of internal battles with love and accepting love.

Thank you to the publishers for providing me the arc of In Another Life in exchange for my honest review.

In this real page-turner book, we meet two adolescents who take more responsibilities that they should and adults trying to find a balance that relieves from the pains of the past. A past that might turn out being really dangerous if retraced.

Chloe Holden is still dealing with the consequences of her parents’ divorce and her mom slow recovery from cancer, when meets Cash Colton and finds out new details of her blurred past.

From the very beginning, the chemistry between Chloe and Cash is undeniable and is probably one of the few things making Chloe’s life in Joyful more exciting and joyful as well. But as soon as they start digging to find the truth and connect the dots about what happened that day of 15 years earlier, that quiet life in the new town takes an unpredictable and dangerous turn.

Even if I’m not a usual YA reader, this book kept my attention for the entire time. I really appreciate the accurate descriptive style and how the author introduces the main characters and their scars (both visible and not), that influence their behavior and their trust in themselves.

I only was slightly disappointed with the final chapters that despite describing a crucial moment, in my opinion, sounded a little hurried and not detailed as the previous ones were. Anyway, I really like the suspense throughout the entire book, and I was actually thinking it could be a great movie.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my free copy.
