Really can’t say enough great things about this one. I listened, which I think added to my enjoyment, as it’s read by a full cast, but even still: it’s smart, it’s funny, it’s honest, it’s heartbreaking, it’s timely. Highly recommend for all.

I want to note that my rating isn't based on the content of these women's stories, but my personal enjoyment while listening.
It was interesting to hear so many different perspectives and see from another women's eyes the things that many of us deal with on a regular basis. I think that this is great information to hear, and any women reading this right now, pick this up and give it a listen.
My rating is just so I can remember that essay style books are just not my forte.

The project's conception was perfect -- each essay was written by a different author about a particular word used to diminish/denigrate women. I liked the variety of perspectives & each felt authentic. I agree with some of the other reviewers that not every essay spoke to me -- but that's okay -- enough of them resonated. Words matter & books like this that highlight how acceptable terms are used to keep women in their place are important influences on our society. Changing our culture so that one day women and men will truly be perceived as equal will take a long time. It will be through lots of little efforts (like eliminating the use of feisty to refer to female attorneys) as much as through grand gestures and legislation. Thanks for putting this together. If you buy the book, don't skip the appendix of terms at the end -- it's a great sum-up.

I loved the concept of this book more than the execution. I thought the organization of the book was witty (each essay focused on a specific word used to undermine women). I liked that each chapter was relatively short but I think there were just too many essays (says a lot about words used to undermine women 😒). While there were a few essays I found exceptional, especially the words most relatable to me, I found most of the essays either weakly associated to their word or just generally dull. I also disliked that there was a lot of American references and political points that went over my head as a non-American. My standouts were: the introduction, Too, Small, Aloof, Pretty, Effortless.
Graphic: Rape, Misogyny, and Sexism

Can’t bring myself to finish this book. It. Is. So. Boring. There was so much missed opportunity in this book that was just wasted. The stories were valid and intriguing but where I was expecting empowerment, the story just ended with no words of wisdom.
