I really enjoyed this! It was a good set up for the world, since this is a series, and enough mystery and twists to keep you reading. The characters are written very well and the story flows nicely, excited for the read of the series!

This is my second read by Darcy and she’s definitely nailed the cozy paranormal mystery sphere!

This one wasn’t as spooky as my previous read (Gallows Hill) and it very much felt like the setup to a longer series, which it is, but it lacked a bit for me because of that.

An intriguing read, but missing a bit of substance for me to rate it higher!

*3.5
I loved the characters in this book! Zoe, daisy, mason and adage worker together all so well. I do have to say though Zoe and daisy were definitely my favourite. I love a good chaotic character.
The reason I give it a 3.5/5 though is because it just seemed every time there was conflict or a big moment for the plot it kind of just fell down? I don’t know how to explain it but it just seemed to sort itself out with little to no conflict which is a little disappointing considering how much the plot worked towards an actual conflict.
Anyway still really enjoyed this!

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated

I don't have a lot of experience reading lighter things and while I'm not sure if this is actually considered 'cosy' it felt cosy to me. Light and easy to read I'm looking forward to picking up the next one at some point to have as a casual ongoing series

3 The way it was written took some of the pleasure out of this read for me. There was a lot of telling, telling me each and every little detail sometimes. I nearly quit it a few times. I kept going anyway, I found enough to have hope that the story would develop beyond that level. The telling got better towards the end enough that I'll give book two a try. There where holes in the story, big ones, perhaps they'll be filled later in the series. First books in a series are always tough.
I love a ghostly graveyard read. This one starts out with a woman running from men with guns. She finds herself at a pastors house in a graveyard. He takes her in, she see's dead people, and swears to find their answers so they can move on. She has no memory of anything or anyone, the author felt the need to remind us of that every time she has to act on an everyday experience. There are several people in the community that feel some connection to her, a closeness I didn't get and wasn't written into the story.... As I try to write this i'm getting irritated with the book again. LOL I'll give #2 a shot
