"Schadenfreude...laughing at someone else's misfortune"
How far would you go for revenge?
Eleanor Greene is grieving for her dad. She believes that the reality TV show "Pranksters" drove her dad to suicide. Now she wants to seek revenge.
L V Matthews has written a great debut novel, such a timely thriller of how damaging the effects of reality TV shows can be on people.
El wants revenge so she turns to the dark web, and this is where she comes across Horsehead, who says he will help and guide her through to get what she wants. Oh gosh I loved Horsehead and the relationship (albeit a strange one under the circumstances) that was developing between him and Eleanor. This bought some dark humour to the storyline.
"Don't go skipping into the sunset farting glitter with a boy"
Just some of Horseheads great advice

I really enjoyed this book! The Prank is an engaging story of obsession and revenge, that took me on a rollercoaster ride! While it started out as a bit of a slow-burner, the book built to an exhilarating pace and I couldn’t put it down.
I love stories where you don’t know who to trust or what is around the next corner, and this one was executed really well. Matthews has created a fantastic villain – I’ll admit, I didn’t think much of him at first but I grew to loathe him!
I definitely didn’t see all of the twists coming and there were some moments that genuinely made me catch my breath. This is a book that will keep you up late into the night, saying just one more chapter!
There was also light relief provided in the form of online conversations between the main character and her co-conspirator. I really enjoyed the banter between them.
If you’re a fan of revenge stories, I’d recommend this one!

Still grieving for her father, El has a chance encounter with a man linked to his death and realises she can orchestrate the perfect revenge.
But her quest becomes an obsession and soon El doesn’t seem to know how to stop. Her drive for his destruction means risking her own life and the lives of those closest to her . . .
This was quite a dark book. It starts with El wanting to get revenge on her father, but as the story unfolds untold secrets come to the surface and we discover that not everything is as simple as El initially thought. I liked the tension of the last 30% of the book, and I did not expect the twist at the end. The first part was good in setting the scene but it felt a bit dragged to me.
I did not particularly liked any of the main characters. Jim, for the obvious reason of being an arrogant, entitled man who thinks everyone has to live by his rules, El for being so obsessed with her father, so much so she can't see what else is going on around her.
Overall a good book that I would recommend if you like dark mysteries.
