J. Michael Straczynski's run as writer on Spider-Man is easily one of my favorites. This collection is one I somehow missed when it was published. Amazingly it was gifted to me by cousin Henry. The amazing part is I own every other collection except this one. What are the chances?! BTW Straczynski had some co-authors on this one, including Peter David. Anyway I loved this story where Morlun returns to eat the spider lifeforce inside Peter.

SPOILERS AHEAD . . .

Peter is killed but his inner spider survives, Peter is reborn, and he embraces his spider-side more than ever before, resulting in the discovery of additional spider-powers. I loved how M.J.'s grief at losing Peter is handled. And was equally impressed with the portrayal of the Avengers reactions to the death of Spider-Man. Just a great story!

Interesting ideas that weren’t developed as much as I would’ve hoped. Quite a few issues were also, in my opinion, very poorly illustrated.

A tear jerker and that's even though I know Marvel has no idea how to kill a character and leave them dead even if it was now rather than years ago. The epilogue definitely took some away from the power of the rest of the book. But this book understands who Peter Parker is. And didn't do all that badly with a host of other character. Sure it was weird and confusing. And the big reveal was unbelievable. But still basically a wow. 4.5 of 5.

This is the first arc that I really got into out of the three series that make it up. Very dramatic and heart-felt, but still with that Spider-Man charm. I just wish they had unified the three series a bit more - Keeping different writers for all three meant slightly different writing styles and characterizations, and keeping different artists for each series resulted in characters looking drastically different from one issue to the next. It was like watching a TV series that completely changes its cast every episode even though the characters are the same, and it's a bit distracting (particularly in Marvel Knights Spider-Man, which was not only much more jarringly different than the other two, but also happened to be in a style that isn't really my thing).

Definitely worth a read though, and I'm considering purchasing the trade. Very good story overall, and Marvel Knights notwithstanding, some of the artwork is spectacular.

Impresionante. El mejor comic de Spiderman que leí, y uno de los mejores comics que leí de todas las series
