So, I bought these books because I wanted some light hearted reading on my Mondays. These books seemed perfect. Guardian Angels, Victoria Schwab, Middle Grade, not that many pages. But on the way to work I already had to swallow away my tears twice and that didn't get any better on the way back. If I'd been at home, I would have cried my heart out, but since I was in the bus, I tried to behave at least a little.

This book was everything a middle grade should be. It's funny at times. It has quite a simple, but very recognisable plot. And the characters are easy to related to, just like their problems. And even though Gabby is very young, the issue she's struggling with, knowing who you are and making sure people see and hear the true you, is an issue that probably will follow us for quite some time.

And even though the writing style of the book is simple and uncomplicated, it's very real and very touching. It doesn't sugarcoat the ugly things in live, the hard things in life, the struggles we face and the losses we have to accept. It's straight to the point, both the happy ones and the sad points and it makes sure to always focus on what's really important.

Because that's what the story is about. It's not an easy story, but it's a story that deserves to be told and read. If you've devoured Schwab's other work and are not against reading some nice middle grade, then please pick this book up. The book deserves it, Gabby and Ari deserve it and this story deserves it. And, if you're just as much of a cry baby as I am, make sure to have some tissues ready. You might need them.

Read this book out loud to my ten-year-old son. He said: “I would give this book 10 out of ten stars. I liked everything about it. I liked all of it - even though there was sadness...it was important for the story. Aria was my favorite character. There was some lying, which is bad, but I liked it anyway. I liked all of the bright colors, and the good friends.”

I told you I loved Victoria Schwab and now after reading New Beginnings, which will be my third book from her, I can say that I am in love with her writing.

I loved both Gabby and Aria. Gabby just wants to be notice for being herself - not because of her super sick brother. Then there's Aria, who is Gabby's guardian angel who actually ENJOYS helping people. I loved everything about these two girls just because they were so likable.

Again, I'm so freaking beyond happy that I found this book/series because I really missed Victoria's writing. Both girls were such lovely characters and now I can't wait to dive into the second book.

I am on a quest to read every single Victoria Schwab book. These are her (first?) middle grade/kids series. I got really nostalgic reading this first book, maybe just because of the stylization of the book itself - large font and that rough mass-market paper that's sort of yellowish. I was a little nervous because I haven't read something like this in a long time. but shame on me, because Victoria Schwab can do literally anything. It's surprisingly deep and has a lot of really great moments. Though I enjoyed it now, I would have loved this as a kid. It's got some really important messages about family, friendship, and, crazy enough, death. I only wish it were longer. I imagine the same premise, but in a YA format could be spectacular.

So different from the VE Schwab of now, but also so familiar.
This was a really sweet story about a young girl trying to find how this version of herself fits into this new town and life where her brother is sick, her mother is preoccupied, her friends treat her differently because of it.
Spoiler: she figures it out with the help of and angel and a little self reflection.
Great for maybe a 5-6th grader

Sappy and shallow world-building. Very shallow overall. Read the last 2 because there were no more audiobooks on my phone.

Es mentira que lo leí, lo escuché a través de su audiolibro. Pero en fin, conocí la historia y me parece genial como para una audiencia pre adolescente. Es una trilogía así que pienso escucharlos todos.

I really liked this book. I will give it 3.5 stars because 4 is just a bit too high for a middle grade. Initially I wasn’t very interested but it’s Schwab so I wanted to give it a try. I liked it quite a lot for a MG and I feel like the book was advanced for MG
