Reminiscent of Simon Green's Nightside novels.

A fairly interesting listen, but not my favorite genre. This is a spooky story about a 14 year old boy who lives in London. His father is prone to bouts of depression and has never told Jonathan anything about his mother or why she is no longer around. As it turns out, she is from Darkside- an underground place inhabited by the descendants of Jack the Ripper. Jonathan becomes entangled in the web of Darkside and must use all his wits and strength to free both himself and his father.

An interesting well written book. The characters are engaging and the book keeps you hooked. I probably would have enjoyed it more as a kid and would have been racing to read the second part. But even as an adult I dont really hate it so that's something.

Jonathan Starling's home has been attacked, his dad is in an asylum, he's running for his life, and there's nowhere to hide. Jonathan has stumbled upon London's greatest secret: Darkside. An incredibly dangerous and unimaginably exciting world

“every time there’s a full moon, you... change?”
“Or when something annoys me enough. And I should warn you, boy, all these questions are pushing me pretty close right now.”

This was super fun. I liked Carnegie he was great. I kinda wanna know who Jonathan’s mother is.

Jeg læste denne bog for nogle år siden, men følte nu, at det var tid til en genlæsning
Den er ikke helt så god, som jeg huskede den, men den er bestemt stadig ganske spændende og fængende

First in a series (did not know this when I started). As the first, the series has potential to be original and interesting. The whole premise is that London is divided into the Lightside and the Darkside and that only those who are half-Darksider can cross over between the two. The Darkside is where all of the criminal element was exiled to and is ruled over by the descendants of Jack the Ripper. The first book in a series usually suffers because it sets up the series, so I am interested to see what the author does with the series in the next book.
