Read this upon recommendation by Jack and Dakota and I’d probably trust them with my life but this was kind of abysmal. Had quite a few redeemable sections which I underlined but mostly documented a creepy old man getting off to teenagers and pooping. Maybe I just didn’t get it?

this fucking freak is able to convey unique human emotions in such a real and concise manner it makes up for the fact in a different life he went the way of norman bates

This book will lay next to the branches in my fire pit tonight

Oh Charles Bukowski, what a disappointment.

If you'd like to read about how he fucks whores and whores fuck him, how much he loves to drink beer, how he digs to look at girl's legs and how generally fucked up his life is, give this one a go.

3.5-

The poems are entertaining but not often insightful. Overall enjoyable but probably won’t reread.

If you got past the hipster pseudo-pretentiousness of enjoying Bukowski congratulations you get a gold star. No for real this is a great selection, Bukowski is an excellent poet and whether you love or hate him it is undeniable that he is one of the most painfully honest salty old bastards this side of, say, Louis ck. Wow I never thought I'd draw that comparison. Anyways, he writes about women, if you were unsure, and I'll be honest mostly I was fine with that but he tended to talk about young girls, like school aged and that's pretty gross, and put me off a bit.

I think he is mostly known for his talk of women but this poor alcoholic sod should have been known for cum soaked sheets and dirty underwear to be honest. It's not often that a poet discusses in such detail his own life but bukowski did so like a fourteen year old on Facebook and it absolutely worked.

I did enjoy this selection though, and his style is perfectly portrayed in this one. If you are just getting into bukowski I would definitely recommend this one.

Oh boy. Bukowski isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. This selection is very raw and blunt and has some uncomfortable moments and makes me grimace more than I’d like to admit, but there are some poems that I do quite enjoy and will say are favorites he’s ever written.

Like I said, he’s definitely not for everyone.

This was a reread for this year. First poetry book of my 2024 book challenge.
