"…manejo por las calles a sólo una pulgada del llanto.
avergonzado de mi sentimentalismo y supuesto amor."

I feel both guilty and indulgent for actually liking this because Bukowski’s writing and viewpoint may come off as plain misogynistic - the white male drunk womanizer who writes about women he doesn’t really view or treat particularly well and yet whose works are lauded by the literary world as ‘art’.

But! some appreciation still because he wrote one of my favorite poems:

there is a loneliness in this world so great
that you can see it in the slow movement of
the hands of a clock.

people so tired
mutilated
either by love or no love.

people just are not good to each other
one on one.

the rich are not good to the rich
the poor are not good to the poor.

we are afraid.

our educational system tells us
that we can all be
big-ass winners.

it hasn't told us
about the gutters
or the suicides.

or the terror of one person
aching in one place
alone

untouched
unspoken to

watering a plant.

- Excerpts from ‘The Crunch’, (c) Charles Bukowski

Perfect soundtrack to this reading - Tom Waits. And we all know not everyone admits his charm. Sure, he's miserable, he's rotten, and sometimes he can even make you sick, but he's talented and anyone who's ever been in the same emotional gutter can testify that.
Bukowski is not only in touch with the most basic and (sometimes) disgusting human feelings, he explores them, plays with them, always with the bitter laugh that characterizes his writing. Brutally sincere in his somewhat misanthropic view of the world, this lost soul might not be properly appreciated by the more sensitive ones.

thank god i never once sympathized with this man

Bukowski nos habla sobre sexo, mujeres, alcohol, vicios, soledad, el sistema económico que nos rompe poco a poco, etc.

Dejando de lado lo machista que es, no está tan mal.

not for me ig

*a book about a man endlessly bemoaning about his shitty life without trying to do anything about it.

I won’t rate this, because my brain is just brain-ly impossible in processing poems. Me and my dumbass problems ig. The women written here so so embodies those “women written by men” tiktok videos that was on trend months ago and I just
