Erek King! Everyone's favorite contest winner cameo guy
who turns into a plot-essential secondary character!
Anyway, if I could give this book an extra star for how many digs Applegate gets in at having to cut Marco's hair because the cover model cut his, I would. Anyway, we get another look at pacifism or at least non-violent resistance during war. We learn about trauma and memory and probably some sort of metaphor about creating a superweapon and then regretting it.
Marco nearly dies at least two times in the span of 100 pages.
Good stuff.

I remember being so frustrated by this pacifist race as a child, but re-reading it as an adult I can appreciate it more. Now I wish they had spent more time with their horror at unlocking their capacity for war, but this would have further frustrated child me so I can see why they didn't.

We get to learn about a new alien species and meet... The Android!
This was a fun one filled with a lot of interesting world building.

I always enjoy how serious Marco's POVs are in contrast to the jokester persona he puts on. He's a lot more insightful than he lets on, and it makes his books really enjoyable.

The Solace: We meet yet another amazing character in this one. We also witness an intense battle, one our team almost lost, one that a character loses themselves to. This book is intense, with a heavier and more somber look into Marco's life and fear.

The Dread: The recaps omg!

Overall, this was a great story, filled with my favorite of the series, deeper and deeper dives into these characters' lives.

One of my favorite Animorphs books hands-down. Marco is my favorite character, and I find his relationship with Erek interesting. What happens to the both of them in this is deliciously messed up.
