This book continually surprised me. The stories in this collection vary greatly in style and content, and yet each one still gives the reader a feeling of satisfaction, a feeling that something new and refreshing has been discovered.

Reading The Origin of Doubt felt like receiving a gift. It is one of the rare books that seemed to open me up and leave something new behind. Nathan's 50 short stories collected here are in a range of styles, with characters at different ages and places, circling often around similar themes: love, gender, sexuality, family. Many of these flash fictions manage to capture an instant that feels almost magical, like the character has managed for a moment to slip through the cracks of our reality into a different one.
