Easily one of the if not the best books I've ever read, you MUST read it. It is like nothing else.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The way the different tenses, time jumps and characters all intertwined and developed within such a short amount of pages was really enjoyable. Each time I stopped reading I wanted to read more. The plot is brilliant because even though I think I’ve sussed the way the story is going to go Jemisin has a way of completely altering where I think the story will go. Even with the predictable aspects of the book it didn’t take away any enjoyment. The only reason I haven’t given a 5 star is due to the fact that the first half is bit of a context hit and the second half feels like it’s prepping you for the rest of the trilogy. Now I don’t find this to be off putting at all as it’s made me excited for the next two however I just don’t quite think it’s on Sword of Kaigen level however it’s a very good read and one of my favourite this year. I love the characters including their flaws and I cannot wait to find out where the story ends up. So much I want to know about the past and the present to Essun’s story. Very happy I finally read it.

Even though the beginning was slow, I found my investment in this story. World and character building was amazing.
