Five very difficult stars!!
Thanks so much to the publisher for sending me an early copy of this book.
After hearing that Jodie Comer has been putting on an amazing stage performance of this story, I was intrigued to pick up this book adaptation.
This one was uncomfortable, angering, and empowering all wrapped up into one and it was extremely interesting to watch a criminal barrister character transform in her ideas on the law system once she was a victim to it.
Highly recommend, but also know that there are major triggers for rape going into this one.
This one comes out on January 30!

Slow to start and character development is the focus if the first 1/2 of the book. The tension is ramped up at the time of the assault and subsequent trial. The rape description is graphic and the aftermath, devastating. This 2nd half of the book is riveting.

This is your sign to read PRIMA FACIE.
What is the last book that had such a meaningful impact that you knew it would stay with you long after the final page?
For me, that book is PRIMA FACIE by Suzie Miller. It is a captivating, fast-paced, quick-witted, sharp, and timely story.
Based on Miller's Olivier and Tony Award - winning play, her debut novel, 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘢 𝘍𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘦, is a powerful and unforgettable exploration of how the legal system fails to accommodate survivors of rape and sexual assault.
Our protagonist, Tessa Ensler, is a brilliant and successful criminal defense barrister, universally recognized and respected as a rising star. She loves her job and fiercely believes in the legal system, even when she repeatedly secures the freedom of men accused of rape and sexual assault through her trademark cross-examinations. Innocent until proven guilty is one of the bedrocks of our society after all.
Unfortunately, after she is raped by a colleague, Tessa faces the harrowing and heartbreaking reality that the legal system is abhorrently flawed when it comes to obtaining justice for survivors of rape and sexual assault.
It is time that we stopped treating rape and sexual assault survivors like suspects. They are survivors of a violent crime and deserve to be heard; not interrogated.
Being unable to provide a "perfectly detailed linear" description about the intimate details of the horrific violation of not only your body, but your mind, and life as you knew it, does not mean that it didn't happen.
"One in three is a lot of women who have something to say.
Too many to ignore." - Suzie Miller, 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘢 𝘍𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘦
I give PRIMA FACIE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and recommend that everyone reads it.

This one made me think. Made me re-assess and re-think all of my past "if that was me" thoughts. I will forever love this book for that aspect alone.

This was certainly a thought-provoking book and the narrative was taut. Unfortunately, the copy I had was an uncorrected proof containing SO many typos it distracted from the narrative. Also, Miller chose to abandon the punctuation for direct speech which was confusing at times. I wasn't sure if Tessa was narrating or speaking aloud to another character. (Or perhaps this was changed in the final version?) I couldn't help feeling for Tessa and despising Julian and the System. Powerful stuff.
